Position Overview - Upper Division Math Teacher - Full Time
The Upper Division Math Teacher is a talented educator committed to pursuing excellence in mathematics instruction within a Christ-centered, classically-inspired learning environment. This teacher will cultivate in students a love for truth, order, and beauty as revealed through mathematics, helping them develop logical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and intellectual virtue.
Primary Responsibilities
- Teach upper division math courses (e.g., Pre-Algebra through Pre-Calculus/Calculus, depending on assignment)
- Present mathematical concepts with clarity, coherence, and increasing rigor
- Foster deep understanding of mathematical principles, not just procedural knowledge
- Encourage habits of precision, perseverance, and logical reasoning
- Integrate discussion, inquiry, and problem-solving consistent with classical pedagogy
- Establish a classroom marked by joy, order, respect, and curiosity
- Model humility and intellectual engagement
- Cultivate student confidence in approaching complex problems
- Regularly assess student understanding and adjust instruction accordingly
- Provide targeted support and extension opportunities
- Collaborate with intervention staff to support diverse learners
- Mentor students with a Christ-centered perspective
- Help students see mathematics as part of God's ordered creation
- Encourage diligence, integrity, and perseverance
- Partner with families in support of student growth
- Collaborate with faculty across disciplines
- Participate in school events, meetings, and professional development
- Contribute to the broader life of the school community
- Teach a full course load (typically 4 sections)
- Participate in advisory, tutoring, or student support structures
- Engage in extracurricular or co-curricular activities as assigned
- Attend all faculty meetings, professional development days, and key school events
Qualifications
At minimum, a qualified candidate will demonstrate:
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or related field
- Strong content knowledge in mathematics
- Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively
- Alignment with the mission and vision of King's Academy
- Strong affinity with the compelling vision of King's Academy
- Active involvement in a local church
In addition, an ideal candidate will have:
- Master's degree preferred
- Teaching experience in middle or high school math
