Position Overview - Multilingual Learner (ML) Interventionist
King's Academy Nashville, a Christ-centered educational community, is seeking a compassionate and mission-driven Multilingual Learner (ML) Interventionist to support the language development and academic achievement of students for whom English is a second language. The ML Interventionist will work closely with students, families, and teachers to ensure equitable access to learning through targeted instruction, faith-infused support, and culturally responsive practices that honor the unique gifts of every learner.
Primary Responsibilities
- Deliver small-group and individualized instruction that promotes both English language development and academic growth, grounded in a Biblical worldview.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, as well as occasionally co teach, to integrate language acquisition strategies across subject areas while reinforcing a Christ-centered approach to learning.
- Conduct language proficiency assessments (e.g., WIDA Model and ELPA) and use data to inform instruction and support planning.
- Develop and implement English Learner Plans (ELPs) or Individualized Language Plans (ILPs) in accordance with state requirements and school mission.
- Regularly monitor student progress and maintain records in compliance with Tennessee state guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with multilingual families, fostering relationships that reflect Christ's love and the values of King's Academy.
- Support school-wide professional development focused on language learning strategies and cultural responsiveness within a Christian context.
- Assist in or coordinate translation/interpretation services as needed to build trust and partnership with diverse families.
- Model and encourage Christian character and servant leadership in all interactions with students, staff, and families.
- Participate actively in the spiritual life of the school, including prayer, chapel, and community-building initiatives.
Qualifications
At minimum, a qualified candidate will demonstrate:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or related field
- Valid Tennessee teaching license with ESL endorsement (or ability to obtain)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with English Language Learners
- A strong understanding of second language acquisition, culturally responsive teaching, and differentiation strategies
- A personal and active relationship with Jesus Christ; agreement with the school's Statement of Faith
- Demonstrated commitment to Christian education and the spiritual formation of students
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Active involvement in the life of a local church
In addition, an ideal candidate will have:
- Master's degree in related field
- Bilingual or multilingual proficiency
- Previous cross-cultural experience
